Ages 13-18. Friday nights in the Summer belong to the teens at Vita Art Center in the Bell Arts Factory. Each night Teens explore the materials and methods of painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, stop motion and more. Explore your passion for art using traditional and experimental techniques and take part in a range of projects. Guest artists will visit throughout the Summer to share their expertise with the group.

All Summer 10 sessions: $240.

This is a great opportunity for young artists to make a large-scale public wall mural to be on display at Bell Arts Factory with muralist MB Hanrahan. The class will be involved in the planning and executing of a large scale mural as well as learning the skills to work on a group project. The class will be mindful of creating a mural that will add beauty and compliment its surroundings.

Students discover the process of painting and composition while producing quality work. The class uses acrylic paint to create large, bold, and expressive paintings. This course focuses on developing technical skill, while exploring shape, form, and value. Students learn how to mix paint and develop an awareness of color relationships. Course covers brush stroke, paint application, and surface texture.

Paint in the tradition of the Masters using a time honored approach to painting form - breaking down what you see into a simplified five value system. Learn to paint with confidence and understanding of how light works. Think value first, comparative degree of light and dark falling on an object, color second.

Students engage in drawing projects including portrait, still life and creative drawing that encourage creative expression, concept development, and advancement of basic drawing skills. Students draw 3D objects and increase their knowledge of the effects of light on form, volume and line.

You will work in a variety materials to create sculptural forms. Instruction in the use of equipment and materials is included. Students first sketch ideas and then create a 3D sculptural piece. The class will introduce the basic elements of three-dimensional design including form, line, texture, light and color, using both additive and subtractive processes.

The class will explore the art of photography using traditional and nontraditional techniques. You will engage in projects throughout the week including, creating illusions with photography, painting with light, portraits, and more. The class will be working with digital cameras. Students need to bring a USB thumb drive. Students should bring their digital camera, if they don’t have one it’s not a problem but please let us know.

Students will draw with a variety of media including graphite, ink and charcoal while engaging in drawing projects that encourage creative expression, concept development, and advancement of basic drawing skills. Students draw 3D objects and increase their knowledge of the effects of light on form, volume and line.

Eager to learn how to design and make your own unique jewelry? Students will design and create their own jewelry. Basic wire wrapping methods are taught. Students will also make their own beads and pendants out of ceramics, glass, and paper. Throughout the week students will make necklaces, earrings, and broaches. Participants should dress in clothes they don’t mind getting messy.

Explore the materials and methods of painting, drawing, collage, stenciling, transfers and more while creating a custom journal. Explore your passion for art using traditional and experimental techniques.

This class uses portrait and figure drawing to heighten skills of observation. Simple tools are taught which help students see the relationships of forms, shapes and values to each other and to the whole. Underlying anatomy is discussed to support the structure of the drawing. Students will draw from a costumed model during this course.

A fast paced, high energy mixed media painting class emphasizing loose and creative exploration. A positive, upbeat, go-with-the-flow teaching environment that will inspire you. Working with acrylic paint, oil pastels and paper on canvas, you will explore many techniques for creating texture and composition with paint and collage. You’ll be exposed to different methods of adhering materials together as well as varied ways to transfer previously printed imagery to your piece.
