The Global Arts Initiative is in its 5th year featuring the work of outstanding contemporary artists who are committed to social, cultural, and political engagement. The initiative celebrates art's capacity for social change, connecting our community to artists who provide a firsthand perspective on the global issues of our times. Each year thousands of visitors are invited to view the art of the Global Artist of Distinction at the Vita Art Center.  First hand connections are made with our guest artists through special events, talks and projects with our many community partners.

Mission, Vision, Philosophy and Future.

Our Mission is to support artists and create a platform to communicate social, cultural, and political engagement. Global Artists are selected individuals who represent a different culture but one they can share with our local community. Significant change starts at the grassroots level by learning, listening and sharing cultures through conversations and creative individuals which opens a mutual discussion on our similarities and differences.

Our Vision is to stimulate our community and engage in a conversation with our selected Global Artist. These open conversations provide an opportunity for personal and social change through creative experiences. GAI provides educational programming for college, high school and elementary students an opportunity to meet with the Global Artist in open conversations and gallery lectures.

Our Philosophy is that when people meet eye to eye and through conversations we find our human connection is greater than our differences. The power of art is it’s ability to start, sometimes difficult, conversations in a positive atmosphere.

Our Future is to continue our established relationships with private individuals, organizations and businesses. Creative community organizations are a critical part of continuing Ventura's Global Arts Initiative which supports our visual arts curriculum, gallery programming, community and student outreach and so much more.
