Jackalope Skateboard Installation

About the Project

Vita Art Center is proud to present a community Skateboard Art Installation as part of the Jackalope Block Party, featuring 100 skateboards generously donated by Powell Peralta and painted by students from Ventura Unified School District. This project brings together youth creativity, public art, and community collaboration in a vibrant installation that celebrates the voices and imaginations of young artists across Ventura.

The skateboards, each uniquely painted by VUSD students, will be displayed as part of a large-scale public artwork at Santa Clara and California Street during the Jackalope Block Party. Together, the boards create a colorful and energetic installation that reflects the individuality of each student while also showing the power of collective creativity. By transforming skateboards into works of art, the project honors both skate culture and the role of the arts in helping young people express themselves.

As part of the installation, Vita Art Center’s Teen Art Program, led by teaching artist Wren Stepan, created a custom mural designed to bring the project together visually. The mural serves as the backdrop and connecting element for the painted skateboards, creating a cohesive installation that highlights movement, color, and the creative energy of Ventura’s youth.

This project reflects Vita Art Center’s ongoing commitment to providing meaningful art experiences for young people and creating opportunities for their work to be seen in the community. By placing student artwork in a public setting during a citywide community event, the installation invites residents and visitors to celebrate the talent, imagination, and collaborative spirit of Ventura’s young artists.

Vita Art Center extends a heartfelt thank you to the Ventura Visitors Center for their hard work and incredible energy in bringing the Jackalope Block Party to Ventura and for inviting us to participate in this exciting community
