Vita Art Center: Teen Artivism Program Fall, 2024
Teen Artivism Program Application
Program Overview: The Teen Artivism Program at Vita Art Center is a free, dynamic initiative designed to empower teens to use art as a form of activism. Participants will engage in various artistic mediums to explore and express themes of social justice and personal empowerment. Led by local multidisciplinary artist Maria Adela Diaz this program offers a unique opportunity to create impactful art while learning art making techniques.
For this program, we will collaborate with the IDEA Center in Ventura, using their advanced tools and resources in our art-making process. The IDEA Center offers a full spectrum of technical and artistic equipment including, 3d printers, laser cutters, a CNC router and more.
Program Commitment: Participants are expected to commit to attending all sessions of the program, actively engage in discussions, and contribute to the creation of collaborative art projects. Your consistent participation is crucial to ensure the success of the program and to foster a supportive, cohesive group dynamic.
Art and Activism: Art has historically played a pivotal role in activism by serving as a powerful tool for expression, communication, and mobilization. Throughout history, artists have used their work to challenge societal norms, highlight injustices, and inspire collective action. By transcending linguistic and cultural barriers, art can convey complex ideas and emotions, foster empathy, and create a sense of solidarity among diverse groups, ultimately driving social change.
